Elijah: “Klaus is the most feared and hated of the originals. But those that fear him are desperate for his approval. If word gets out that the doppelganger exists, there’ll be a line of vampires eager to take you to him, and I can’t have that.”

Elena gets one step closer to Elijah. Elena: “Isn’t that exactly what you’re trying to do?” Elijah: “Let’s just say that my goal is not to break the curse.” Elena: “So what is your goal?” Elijah: “Klaus’ obsessions have made him paranoid. He’s a recluse. He trusts only those in his immediate circle.” Elena: “Like you?” Elijah: “Not anymore.”

Elena realizes Elijah doesn’t know where Klaus is and he looks down. Interesting moment, that. Elena: “You don’t know where he is, do you? So you’re trying to use me to draw him out.” Elijah: “Well, to do that, I need you to stay put and stop trying to get yourself killed.”

Elijah flips through Elena’s diary and she walks closer to him. Elijah: “Do nothing. Do nothing, live your life, stop fighting. And then, when the time is right, you and I shall draw Klaus out together. And I shall make certain that your friends remain unharmed.”

Elena clarifies how Elijah can keep everyone safe and realizes the potential of the alliance. I have friends with similar gifts.” Elena: “You know witches.” Elijah: “Together we can protect everybody that matters to you.”

Elena waits for Elijah to wake up.

stupid to betray him again. By removing the dagger, I have proven myself.”

Elijah and Elena walk the Lockwood grounds. Elena wants to know why Klaus is so obsessed with breaking the curse. Elijah: “Yes. The witches won’t allow anything truly immortal to walk the earth. Every creature needs to have a weakness in order to maintain the balance.” Elena: “So the Sun can’t kill an Original. Why is Klaus so obsessed with breaking the Sun and Moon curse?”

Elijah explains that he and Klaus made up the Aztec drawings. Elena: “I don’t understand. So Klaus drew the Aztec sketches about the curse?” Elijah: “Roman scrolls, African tribal etchings, and any other culture or continent we felt like planting it in.” Elena: “But why?”

Elijah explains why he and Klaus made up the curse and planted it every damn where. Elijah: “Easiest way to discover the existence of a doppelganger or to get your hands on some long, lost moon stone is to have every single member of two warring species on the lookout.”
